Tiger Iron - Iron Stone - One of the more unusual Australian Gemstones

Australia is not called the 'Red Continent' for nothing. All that red earth is rich in iron - very rich.

Ironstone is a sedimentary rock which contains substantial proportions of iron.
If ironstone is found as red or black banded form, it is called tiger iron.

Ironstone is one of the unique gemstones occurring in Australia and I have used a large, polished disc of this interesting stone for a new necklace.

The stone is simply wire wrapped with a small bird charm and attached to a solid brass chain. Nothing fancy, but a substantial statement piece.
